Plot Outline Three unknowing martial artists are summoned to a mysterious
island to compete in a tournament whose outcome will decide the fate of the world.
- Plot Synopsis: The Lightning God Rayden guides warrior Liu Kang, police detective Sonja Blade, and martial arts
movie star Johnny Cage to a remote island to compete in the Shaolin Tournament known as Mortal Kombat. If the Outworld wins
the Shaolin Tournament ten times in a row, they can enter the Realm of Earth and take over. They have been victorious the
last nine times, and with warriors like Scorpion, Sub Zero, and Goro, the future of Earth looks bleak.

Cage up against emperor Shao Kahn and his extermination squad led by Ermac, Motaro, Sheeva and Rain. Kahn's plan is to merge
Earth with Outworld into one realm by resurrecting Kitana's mother, Queen Sindel. After the death of Johnny Cage, the warriors
flee from Liu Kang's temple where Rayden tells me they are no more rules because Kahn broke them and the only way they can
defeat them is to bring peace into Sindel's spirit and they have seven days to do it. Rayden then sends Sonya to find his
partner Jax, while Kitana and Liu Kang goes looking for Nightwolf so they can help them defeat Shao Kahn.

Plot Summary

Storyline
The film features Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade traveling on a mysterious boat to battle in the Mortal Kombat tournament. On the way they meet Lord Rayden who provides them with some hints about how to survive the tournamnet and defeat Shang Tsung and his army of minions.
Upon arriving at the island where the battle takes places, Lord Rayden retells the origins of both Shang Tsung and Goro, mixed in with fight scenes with the minions. The fight scenes often use recycled animation, and the CGI animation was widely seen as being of a poor quality then, and has certainly not aged well.
