on the original arcader version,a rumor stated that the game would sometimes present problems due to a bug and mix two characters together. This would usually be two of the ninja characters, resulting in a ninja in a semi-red suit. The computer would display his name as "ERMAC", short for "error macro." As word spread, people thought they had found a secret character. That wasn't the case, yet in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, it was decided to make an actual Ermac character.

John (the MK Janitor)
A fake chaeracter. While creating Mortal Kombat, they carefully hid John in it - and not just him, but several more characters who were never discovered.Unlocking John in MK1
First, play the game non-stop for 24 hours. You must have all flawless victories with fatalities, using nothing but block. Then, throw a chair at the screen, walk outside and bang your hand against a lamppost. When you pass out and wake up again, buy a new TV or computer screen. Play MK1 and you'll find that John's image has replaced Scorpion's.

John ives out hints on how to find him, like these:
Clean is how to find me
Look to el Soapo
Buthtab eht fo renroc
You must find me to clean me

Ammonia is the key
Waxality is the key

In MK1, a strange glitchy Goro appeared... it seemed almost like he was wearing a dress and make-up. Later, the fans learned that this 'Whoro' was in fact very real... one of the many hidden characters which were never recognised. Whoro turned out to be, in fact, Goro's cross-dressing brother. Confused and eager to meet up with his beloved John, Whoro followed him in MK1 and MK4...

When the Lin Kuei's Automated Prostitution project was implemented, Gayrax was the first to volunteer. In fact, he was so eager, that the clan at first refused to enter him. Gayrax later on still managed to sneak into the program, becoming unit BigGayL-6T9... Gayrax has had many moves and combos. Among them were:
Bottom Pinch (B-F-HK): A mechanical arm extends from Gayrax and pinches his foe in the butt, making them doubt their sexual orientation and leaving them open to a combo.
Queer Wave Punch (D-D-D-R): Gayrax waves at his enemy in a gay manner, confusing them and leaving them open to a combo again.

 Sfinktor
As a 7th generation Lin Kuei Warrior, Sfinktor is the only ninja that ever mastered the use of his sphincter muscle. In this martial art, he is the only master. When entered into the Cyberninja/callboy project, the Lin Kuei automated all but his ass, making sure he would be able to use it even as a cyberprostitute.

Sfinktor's human identity: Kanus

Hornbuckle
A Liu Kang pallete swap in green(left)found in The Pit II.Dubbed Hornbuckle by fans.
Torch
Originally named Torch by fans. Found across Hornbuckle. A Liu Kang in brown pants with upper torso on fire. Because of copyright issues, he was officialy NAMED Blaze in MKDA.
Since John had obviously won Mortal Kombat, the fans were confused to see not much had changed in MKII. Didn't John win Earth for Shao Kahn? Wasn't Earth in ruins? Where was John now? More confusion erupted when two Johns were discovered in MKII, one ninja and one cyberninja. What was going on... had John and Ed lied? The answer was to come much later... in Mortal Kombat Mopologies: John. John's MK1 ending was one of two possible paths... for the janitor had rebelled against Shao Kahn and joined his nemesis, Balzax. Unfortunately, Kahn had managed to capture John once again... and force him into automation. But, John could not be caught so easily...

Image hosted by Photobucket.comScarlett
Skarlet was a rumored female ninja character in Mortal Kombat II. Her origin is allegedly similar to the explainations for the Ermac glitch. When the proper color palette for either Kitana or Mileena would not load, it would give the character a red or scarlet color. In the cartoon series Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, a female ninja named "Ruby" makes an appearance and is described as one of Ermac's red ninjas, who are taking orders from Shao Kahn. It is quite possible that Ruby's appearance is the creator's response to this glitched character. It may have been an attempt to evolve Skarlet into a real character, similar to Ermac, but that did not happen.

 Kano and Sonya
Both found chained in Shao Kahn's arena

Cloak

is the fan name of the Shadow Priests that could be found in the Tower and Portal stages in Mortal Kombat II, the Soul Chamber from Mortal Kombat 3, and the Portal stage in Mortal Kombat: Deception.

The Shadow Priests are Shao Kahn's top sorcerers, led by Shang Tsung. They were used in the plot to reincarnate Queen Sindel for the invasion plan of Mortal Kombat 3, and possibly helped with the creation of Mileena. A mysterious and mystical figure, he/they are among the few favourites that the Mortal Kombat team hasn't reintroduced as a playable character, but they appear as enemies in the outworld level of Shaolin Monks, in which they also operate the device the restores Shang Tsung's youth.

other un found mk2 chars-Many fans were convinced that Goro was hidden somewhere in Mortal Kombat II and many were obsessed with finding him. The UK's GamesMaster magazine (also a popular TV Show on Channel 4) received numerous letters asking about where to find Goro. Much searching was done, both by fans and the computer game press, until in 1995 GamesMaster concluded, "We are positive Goro isn't to be found in Mortal Kombat II, we are positive he would have been found by now."

Dan "Toasty" Forden in Mortal Kombat II (arcade version).  After landing a strong uppercut against the opponent, the face of Dan Forden, a lead programmer, would appear in the lower-right corner of the screen and shout, "Toasty!"

It's believed that Balzax is named after Ed Boon's cat, who once attacked John Tobias and gave him lyme disease. Balzax has been around for many ages, but did not actually do battle himself until MKII. Once you've unlocked Balzax, all the character endings will change to their true nature. Often it's because Balzax had a part in the character's story. After MK1, Balzax had lost contact with John, who had been captured by Shao Kahn again. Luckily, Balzax met up with John just after he had defeated Kahn, and started a psychological treatment to free him from his split personality.

Cerberus's Avatarglitch characters occurred should the player accomplish the very difficult feat of reaching Reptile in Endurance mode. Toke

Toke is Smoke's lost brother. Smoke helped his younger brother escape when the Lin Kuei warriors were converted to cyberprostitutes. Toke fled to the Netherlands and hid in a basement in Amsterdam. Over time, he grew to enjoy a visit to the local coffeeshops and found that he gained unimaginable powers with every puff he took of his mighty joint. Emitting a slightly paralysing and highly pleasant smoke, Toke became a feared enemy to the Lin Kuei...

    Behind The Mop
The name of Toke originally appeared in a list of name parodizing those of MK characters, in a post by FatSatan. Toke would have disappeared after that, but dominosr salvaged the name and made a green pot-ninja for it that grew out to be one of the most popular characters.

    Chameleon-
Pick any male ninja (Reptile, Classic Sub-Zero, Rain, Human Smoke, Ermac, Noob Saibot, or Scorpion) and hold BACK + LP + HP until the fight starts. Chameleon is a semi-clear ninja that morphs into all the other ninjas in the game. When the fight begins, your ninja will explode and change into Chameleon.

Image hosted by Photobucket.comKhameleon-(only for n64) At the story screen, press C-Right, C-Up, A, B, C-Down, C-Up, C-Right. If you entered the code correctly, the name "Khameleon" will be spoken. Khameleon's moves/fatalities/combos depend on what color her name is on her life bar. If her name is blue, she is Kitana; when it is green she is Jade; and when it is purple she is Mileena.

At the time that the third MK game was made, the fans had thought of tons of stupid theories about the existence of HumanJohn and CyberJohn. Some said they were brothers, others said they were sisters, and two or three people said they were second cousins twice removed. Of course, all these people were complete idiots. The appearance of the purple ninja Rain confused the fans more. Who was this? Another family member of John? The answer eventually came in Balzax' MKT ending... Traumatised by automation, John had developed a split personality. His human side, Rain, and his cybernetic side, CyberJohn. Only his master, Balzax, could set him free...

Princess Kitana from Mortal Kombat Gold. Kitana was originally planned to be in Mortal Kombat 4. However, due to there not being enough new characters in the game, her colour palatte was changed to brown to make Tanya. Her coding is still in the N64 version of the game, and she can be accessed with a GameShark.

Using his mop as an even more deadly weapon, John returned once again in MK4. His moves made him more powerful than ever. Though he was still hidden, his deadly moves became feared throughout the MK community. And of course, his storyline continued... A slight misunderstanding between John and Balzax brought them at war together. John had accidently thrown out Balzax' collection of original Bee Gees' albums. Now that the two heroes of Mortal Kombat were not talking to each other anymore, Earth's survival became less likely...

John's future is quite safe for now. A few months ago, a teaser of him appeard on Noob.com, as seen here below. The teaser was replaced a few hours later by a Scorpion teaser, because it was believed John's apperance should be kept a secret for now. It will be attempted to achieve John's 6D graphics in this game. Also, John's storyline will become even more complex as his involvement in sexual scandals, political schemes and an intergalactic war are brought to light. Of course Balzax, with whom he reconciled in his MK4 ending, will return too, to stand with him. Here are some early game pictures of John and how he will appear in MKV... The Ninjanitor lives on.

    Zebron

Zebron was a character concept in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Actually a joke character never intended to be included in the game, an image of him was intentionally leaked. Therefore, the creators added this image to the actual game.

In Deadly Alliance's Krypt, Koffin "ZE" contained Zebron's image, along with the comment that the developers would "never do a Zebra guy...or would we?" However, in Mortal Kombat Krypts, there are several of these concept sketches, so it is unknown if the character was ever meant to be created.
