Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is newest and upcoming Mortal Kombat game exclusively for the Playstation2 and XBox, instead of the  set to release in stores on October 2, 2006. rather than Nintendo Revolution, Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. The reasoning behind the decision to stay on current generation consoles was to wrap up all the current loose ends, and make for a fresh start for the next gen installment. This game will "wipe the slate clean" on the current generation of MK fighters, tying up all loose ends and explain what happens to all of them. Contrary to popular fan belief and the game's name, MKA will probably lead to the End of the Mortal Kombat Universe with the realms blowing up. Some features are:
 
  • 60+ characters. Almost every character from all previous MK games (Motaro has been confirmed by Boon and IGN.)
  • Improved air kombat. Characters will now be able to perform air combos, as opposed to the one or two hits in previous games.
  • Directional throwing.
  • New Deathtraps,including the famous Subway.
  • Every arena in every MK game come together for the first time.
  • All new Konquest mode that will play similarly to Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, complete with a new character.
  • Kustom Fatalities - Each character will have around 20 pre-set moves with which to dispatch their opponent.
  • Kreate-a-Fighter - Every detail of the new characters, like appearance and attacks, will be created by the player. (much like Soul Calibur III)
  • Build your own Fighting Style - You choose which attacks your kreated character will use in their fighting style, then name it!
  • The Krypt will be replaced by "The Vault", and all of its contents will be unlockable through any play mode
